It’s hard to believe, but there are 20 National Parks in Norway, and they cover over 10% of the territory of Norway! The National Parks of Norway are protected by law in an effort to preserve the country’s rich natural heritage. That’s good news for travelers! Because the landscape of Norway is endowed with such beautiful gifts of nature, that they are best preserved for all time.

Hardangervidda is the largest National Park in Norway. It’s also the largest mountain plateau in northern Europe. It’s made-up of rolling mountains and ancient remains more than 1000 million years old. It’s here that you find the famous Harteigen and Hardanger glaciers.

Ormtjernkampen is by contrast the smallest of the national parks in Norway. Its here that the flora and fauna of nature grow freely, where rich animal life thrives, including deer, elk, foxes, minks, and wolverines!

Jotunheimen translates to “The Home of the Giants”, and is the home of the highest peaks in Norway and all of northern Europe. The famous Hurrungane group of mountains is a mecca for rock climbers. Coupled with several vast lakes, this national park is a favorite for hikers. Rare plants like the Glacial Crowfoot, the highest growing flowering plant, the Purple Saxifrage, and the Midsummer Men find there home in this park. See it with your own eyes!
